Mayor Mario Durán cracks down on illegal parking fees in San Salvador

Mayor Mario Durán of San Salvador Centro posted videos showing municipal agents from the Cuerpo de Agentes Metropolitanos (CAM) confronting individuals who were charging illegal fees for parking in public spaces. In one incident, a shop owner near the SívarLand area collected $5 from a driver for a parking spot and then refused to allow the vehicle to use it. After a complaint, CAM agents forced the owner to return the money and issued a fine. In another case, a man was warned by municipal delegates to stop charging for parking on a public street and to refund the money he had taken, under threat of sanctions ranging from $51 to $900. The mayor urged residents to report illegal parking charges, citing the municipal ordinance that prohibits such practices.

The enforcement actions are part of a broader effort by the San Salvador Centro municipality to curb unauthorized parking fees and ensure free circulation on public roads.
