Dubrovnik launches 77th Summer Games with opening ceremony and cultural program

On 10 July the city of Dubrovnik raised the Libertas flag in front of the Church of St. Vlaho to officially open the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Games. Mayor Mato Franković highlighted the festival’s role in the city’s identity and heritage while emphasizing the need to balance development with preservation.

The opening featured performances by the Festival Drama Ensemble, the Munich Radio Orchestra, soprano Marija Kuhar Šoša, several choirs, dance groups and folk ensemble Linđo. Over the next 47 days, more than 70 programmes of drama, music, dance, visual art and folklore will be presented on various venues, under the theme “Northern Lights”. High‑profile guests included the speaker of the Croatian Parliament, ministers of culture and construction, and a European Commission commissioner.

Tickets are available online and at local outlets, with discounts for residents and Mastercard holders. The festival is expected to attract both domestic and international audiences, reinforcing Dubrovnik’s status as a cultural hub in the Adriatic.
