Mayor Nello Pizza seeks public‑private deal to revive Avellino’s municipal pool and improve city services

Avellino’s mayor, Nello Pizza, has placed the long‑closed municipal swimming pool at the centre of the city’s renewal programme. The facility, built in 2006 with a project‑financing model, fell into disrepair, accrued about €2.6 million in debts and remained shut after the 2020 lockdown. The council is now weighing a public‑private partnership to fund the structural repairs and to create a sustainable operating model for the pool’s future use.

Pizza also outlined a broader agenda for the city: priority road and sidewalk upgrades, greening of public spaces, and a boost to municipal services. He highlighted the need to reactivate the railway line that links Avellino with the university campus in Fisciano and onward to Naples, aiming to restore regular train service as a catalyst for economic growth and better connectivity.
