Mayor Paulinho Freire to centralize New Year shows in Natal and revamp city festivities
Natal mayor Paulinho Freire announced plans to restructure the city’s flagship year‑end program “Natal em Natal.” The proposal would end the multi‑day festival and concentrate the major concerts to the New Year’s Eve night, focusing on the Ponta Negra waterfront and adding a show at Praia da Redinha.
The administration also intends to expand holiday decorations across all four city regions, create new visitor points, and decentralize smaller events to neighbourhoods to improve access and boost tourism.
A recent impact study of the São João de Natal event showed it generated roughly R$210.5 million for the local economy in 2026, received 95.6 % public approval, and increased tourist participation, underscoring the mayor’s push to make the capital more attractive to visitors beyond its residents.
