Mayor Salomão Araújo and Agriculture Subsecretary Threatened by Comando Vermelho in Monsenhor Tabosa

The mayor of Monsenhor Tabosa, Salomão Araújo, filed a police report after his brother and municipal finance secretary, Júnior Araújo, received death threats allegedly from members of the Comando Vermelho (CV) criminal faction. The threats warned the official to leave the city, accusing him of ties to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC).

Separately, the municipal subsecretary of Agriculture, Francisco de Assis Sousa Júnior, also reported a death threat attributed to the CV. Both incidents were recorded on July 29, and videos circulating on social media show hooded men, presumed to be CV members, brandishing firearms and firing shots in the district of Nossa Senhora do Livramento.

The Ceará State Public Security and Defense Secretariat (SSPDS) confirmed that the Civil Police of Ceará (PCCE) is investigating the cases. The investigations involve the Municipal Police, the Draco Norte unit, the Department of Interior Police North (DPI‑Norte), the Department of Organized Crime Repression (DRCO) and the Intelligence Coordination (Coin). Authorities are working to identify the perpetrators and assess any broader intimidation against the mayor’s family.
