Mayor Sara Funaro receives bipartisan support following online threats

Florence Mayor Sara Funaro has received bipartisan solidarity following threats made against her on social media. Political leaders from both the Democratic Party (PD) and Brothers of Italy (FdI) have condemned the attacks, stating that while political criticism is a necessary part of democracy, personal attacks and intimidation are unacceptable.

Roberto Cammarata, secretary of the Brescia PD, noted that hatred and racism should not become ordinary tools of public discourse. Diego Zarneri, provincial coordinator for Brothers of Italy, described the verbal aggression as an attack on the value of democratic institutions.

The Butterfly Anti-Violence Center also issued a statement, emphasizing that verbal violence against women in public roles is a serious issue that seeks to silence them through humiliation and intimidation. The center stressed that combating violence requires recognizing its verbal and symbolic forms.
