Mayor Spiros Diamantopoulos sues Neochori resident over alleged insult

On the night of 27 July 2026, Mayor Spiros Diamantopoulos of Mesologgi filed a criminal complaint against a resident of the village Neochori, accusing him of gesturing an insulting word toward the mayor. The resident was taken to the Aitolia‑Thessaloniki police station, and the police rapid‑response unit OPKE entered the shop where the resident was present, creating a disturbance.

The mayor later explained that this was the fourth occasion he had been subjected to similar behavior and said he could no longer tolerate such actions, emphasizing that he called the police without aggression and that the subsequent police intervention was not his decision.
