Mayor Tahir Büyükakın showcases Kocaeli street upgrades and community ties

Kocaeli Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın attended the completion of renovations on Şehit Ergün Köncü Caddesi in İzmit’s Yahya Kaptan neighbourhood. The 850‑metre avenue received 5,000 tonnes of asphalt, 2,000 metres of fiber‑optic cable, and 37 decorative lighting poles, turning it into a ‘prestige’ street. Local traders thanked the mayor, noting the improved transport standards and aesthetic appeal.

Later in Derince, Büyükakın was welcomed by members of the Kocaeli Yörükler environmental‑cultural association, who presented him with a poem. He highlighted completed water and sewage works, ongoing urban‑transformation projects, and fast‑tracking of the south‑metro line that will ease city traffic. Emphasising his administration’s approach, he said, “We are never populist; we work with real actions for the nation.”
