Mayor Tiberiu Iacob Ridzi Highlights Local Autonomy in Romania’s Public Salary Law Talks
On early June 2026, the Association of Romanian Municipalities (AMR) took part in a working meeting organised by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity. The session examined a draft law on the remuneration of public‑sector employees funded from state budgets. Mayor Tiberiu Iacob Ridzi of Petroșani stressed that the discussions underlined the need to respect local autonomy and administrative decentralisation when shaping the new salary framework. Participants, including AMR President Lia Olguța Vasilescu (Craiova) and other municipal mayors, presented observations and proposals aimed at tailoring the legislation to the realities faced by local authorities. The meeting was technical, focusing on collecting feedback before the draft proceeds to parliamentary deliberation.
