Mayor Zhivko Todorov pledges support for Beroe amid talks with owner

Stara Zagora mayor Zhivko Todorov honoured the veteran squad of FC Beroe‑1916 after they won the Republican championship, breaking a nine‑year dominance by the former champions. He presented the team with a plaque on behalf of the municipality and highlighted the club’s historic achievement.

Todorov announced that a meeting with Beroe owner Ernan Banato is scheduled for next week to discuss the club’s future following its recent relegation. He said the city will assist financially by coordinating with local businesses, but sport‑technical decisions will remain the responsibility of the club’s professionals. The mayor stressed the need for better communication with fans, greater involvement of veterans, and a focus on developing Bulgarian players from the club’s academy. He also called for a dedicated sector in the stadium for former players as a sign of respect.

The mayor’s statements aim to stabilise Beroe’s finances, rebuild community support, and set a course for a return to the top division.
