Mayoral candidates emerge in Ibarra and Ica elections

In Ecuador, five candidates have officially registered to compete for the mayoralty of Ibarra in the 2026 elections. The candidates include Juan Arias, Lucía Posso, Álvaro Castillo Monge, José Moncayo, and Israel Cabezas. Juan Arias, running under the 'Juntos por la Transformación' alliance, previously sought the position in 2023. Lucía Posso, a lawyer and former member of the National Assembly, is noted for her extensive experience in elected office.

In Peru, rival candidates for the provincial mayoralty of Ica, Moisés Navarro and Emma Mejía, were recently seen together in a photograph despite their competing political interests. Navarro, representing 'Progresemos', and Mejía, representing 'Fuerza Popular', both belong to prominent local families with long-standing political and business ties in the city.
