Mayors in Uruguay and Mexico Call for More Police Resources Amid Rising Crime

Luis Pablo Parodi, mayor of Carmelo in Uruguay's Colonia department, said the city's security situation is becoming "more complex each day" and demanded additional police officers, a faster response from the prosecutor's office, and the establishment of a local monitoring centre. He noted that the municipal police currently operate with only three or four officers per shift and struggle to address domestic violence, theft, motorcycle robberies and other offenses.

In Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, municipal secretary Hugo Reséndez Silva reported a decline in common crimes such as house burglaries, street assaults, vehicle thefts and commercial property damage. He attributed the reduction to coordinated municipal surveillance and joint operations with state and federal security forces, pledging to continue the measures.

Both local officials highlighted the need for stronger law‑enforcement presence and inter‑governmental cooperation to improve public safety in their respective cities.
