Mayors of Kenge (DRC) and Doba (Chad mobilize residents to curb cholera spread

In Kenge, the capital of Kwango province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mayor Noël Kuketuka has launched a multi‑day awareness campaign after confirmed cholera cases were reported in the nearby Boko health zone. He is urging residents to practice safe hygiene, treat drinking water, avoid physical contact with contaminated sources and is coordinating neighborhood leaders to spread the messages, following instructions from the provincial governor.

In Doba, Chad, Mayor Misdongarti Nodjinan began a large‑scale cleaning of drainage channels around the modern market on 1 August 2026. The effort aims to clear accumulated waste that can breed diarrhoeal diseases, including cholera, after cases were reported in N’Djamena. The mayor called on traders and the public to keep the market clean, use waste bins and refrain from open defecation, hoping to prevent further spread of the disease.
