Mayors of Tarija and Bogotá Honor Firefighters for Disaster Response

The mayor of Tarija, Johnny Torres Terzo, led a ceremony recognizing police, risk‑management and volunteer firefighters for their work in containing forest fires that threatened the Sama hill and surrounding districts. He highlighted the coordinated effort that protected residents and natural areas, and stressed the importance of continued collaboration for future emergencies.

In Bogotá, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and fire chief Paula Ximena Henao Escobar presented decorations to the USAR COL‑1 team for rescuing an 11‑year‑old boy and providing technical assessments after the double earthquake in Venezuela. The ceremony underscored Bogotá’s commitment to international disaster‑relief cooperation and the high‑level training that qualifies the unit for UN‑INSARAG accreditation.
