Mayotte opens new MDPH branch in Petite-Terre

A new branch of the Maison départementale des personnes handicapées (MDPH) has been inaugurated in Labattoir, Petite-Terre. This facility aims to improve access to rights and services for people with disabilities and their families, eliminating the need to travel to Mamoudzou in Grande-Terre.

Previously, residents in Petite-Terre faced significant logistical challenges when accessing services, including ferry crossings and difficult road travel. Currently, 888 people in the area have active rights through the MDPH, but estimates from Insee suggest that more than 3,000 individuals may be affected by disability in the region.

The goal of the new branch is to increase the number of supported individuals in Petite-Terre to between 2,000 and 3,000. To better serve the community, the MDPH is prioritizing the recruitment of local staff who understand the specific needs and geography of the area.
