Mayra Mendoza defends attire amid social media criticism
Buenos Aires provincial deputy Mayra Mendoza has responded to social media criticism regarding her attire during a legislative session. While participating in the ceremonial raising of the Argentine flag, Mendoza wore blue and yellow Adidas athletic pants, colors associated with the Boca Juniors football club.
Mendoza defended her choice of clothing, stating, “I have used Adidas since I was young. I am a Boca fan. What is the crime?” She also reported receiving insults and derogatory terms online.
The legislator used the controversy to pivot toward a political critique, questioning why public attention is focused on her clothing rather than a recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the Rural Land Law. She argued that the debate should instead center on the court's decision, which she claims facilitates the foreign ownership of national lands.
