Mays al-Jabal hospital in South Lebanon burned during military strikes

The Lebanese Ministry of Health has condemned the burning of the Mays al-Jabal government hospital in the Marjayoun district of South Lebanon. The ministry described the incident as a ‘barbaric crime’ and a violation of international agreements, alleging that the facility was targeted by Israeli forces.

The hospital, which had recently undergone renovations to serve as a vital medical refuge for displaced populations, was reportedly used as a military barracks before being set on fire. The ministry called on the international community, the World Health Organization, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to hold the occupying forces accountable for targeting medical institutions.

These attacks occur despite a U.S.-mediated framework intended to facilitate an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. The conflict has caused significant damage to Lebanon's healthcare infrastructure; since early October 2023, the official death toll has reached 8,953, with over 30,000 wounded. Previous reports indicated that sixteen hospitals had been damaged and three had been forced to close due to the ongoing hostilities.
