Mays Landing man sentenced to five years for two strangulation assaults

Jerry Vargas-Perez, a 27‑year‑old resident of Mays Landing, New Jersey, was sentenced on Friday to five years in state prison for two separate strangulation assaults on women. The first incident occurred on November 26, 2022, when Atlantic City police responded to a domestic‑violence call and arrested Vargas‑Perez after he strangled a victim near Winchester and North Providence Avenues. The second assault happened on July 6, 2024, in Hamilton Township, where he again strangled a different woman. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve 85 % of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Lamar Parker, a 42‑year‑old Atlantic City man, pleaded guilty in Superior Court to third‑degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after surveillance video showed him repeatedly striking a man with a hammer at a convenience store on Congress Avenue on February 22, 2026. Parker faces a four‑year prison term, with sentencing scheduled for August 19.
