Mayurbhanj: 46 students fall ill at residential school hostel

Forty-six girl students at the Mantri SSD Girls High School hostel in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district fell ill after eating dinner on Tuesday night. The students reportedly experienced symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Medical treatment is being provided across multiple locations. Eight students are at the Mantri Health Centre, 11 are at the Badasahi Group Health Centre, and the remaining 27 are receiving care at the school hostel. Doctors have reported that the students are currently stable and out of danger.

District authorities have launched a high-level inquiry to determine the cause of the illness, with suspicion falling on food poisoning or contaminated drinking water. Mayurbhanj Collector Hemakanta Say has inspected the hostel’s kitchen, dining hall, and water facilities. Health department officials have collected food and water samples for laboratory testing. The administration has stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found negligent.
