Mazara del Vallo Coast Guard rescues man after boat capsizes
A 65-year-old man was rescued by the Coast Guard of Mazara del Vallo after spending nine hours in the sea following the capsizing of his recreational fishing boat. The incident began when the man's wife alerted authorities around 5:00 PM after he failed to return from his customary Sunday fishing trip.
Search teams, including the SAR patrol boat CP 2092 and vessels from the Lega Navale, located the man's boat approximately three miles off the coast of Mazara del Vallo. The vessel was found overturned and semi-submerged. Despite an inspection of the overturned boat by a private diver, the man was not initially found.
Rescue operations, coordinated by the XII MRSC of Palermo, focused on the area between Torretta Granitola and the location of the capsized boat. The man was eventually located and saved, aided by a lifebuoy his wife had purchased for him just a week prior.
