Mazara del Vallo commemorates Maria Cristina Gallo one year after death

The community of Mazara del Vallo is holding a commemorative day to mark the first anniversary of the death of Maria Cristina Gallo, a teacher who died following a medical malpractice incident.

Gallo’s case drew significant attention after it was revealed she waited eight months for a histology report. The report was only secured through legal action, by which time her disease had reached an advanced stage. An investigation prompted by parliamentary inquiry revealed that over 3,000 histology reports had not been delivered in the province of Trapani.

The commemorative program includes a roundtable discussion titled ‘Nessuno deve essere lasciato solo’ (No one must be left alone), featuring Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Giorgio Mulè and Dr. Luigi Cajazzo, Director General of ASST Spedali Civili di Brescia. The event aims to advocate for patient rights and healthcare accountability.

Additionally, the municipal library reading room in Mazara del Vallo will be officially named in honor of Maria Cristina Gallo. The day will conclude with a religious service at the Mazara del Vallo Cathedral.
