Mazara del Vallo fishermen declare state of agitation

Fishermen in Mazara del Vallo have declared a state of agitation following a large assembly. Labor unions Flai Cgil and Uila Uil Trapani cited a dramatic economic crisis caused by rising management costs and deteriorating working conditions.

A primary driver of the mobilization is the surge in fuel prices, which union leaders claim is erasing profit margins and making fishing activities uneconomical. Additionally, workers are protesting a regional government tender regarding diesel subsidies, arguing that the current formulation fails to adequately protect workers or respect existing national collective bargaining agreements.

Union secretaries Giovanni Di Dia and Leonardo Falco stated that the sector, a vital economic and social pillar, is at risk of total collapse. They have requested an immediate meeting with the regional fisheries assessor, Luca Sammartino, to revise the subsidy program and warned of more intensive forms of protest if concrete solutions are not provided.
