Mazara del Vallo fishing industry meets to discuss red shrimp management

Federpesca has organized a meeting at the CNR headquarters in Mazara del Vallo to discuss the management of the red shrimp resource in the Strait of Sicily. The gathering aims to bring together national institutions, regional authorities, and maritime operators to address the future of the local fishing fleet.

Key participants include Graziella Romito, director of Maritime Fisheries for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF), and representatives from the Sicilian Regional Fisheries Department. The discussion will focus on stock management, increasing operational costs, and the need for environmental sustainability that does not compromise the economic viability of local businesses.

Santino Adamo, president of Federpesca Mazara, emphasized the need for balanced measures based on scientific data. He argued that the voices of those working daily at sea must be central to institutional dialogue to ensure competitive equity within the Mediterranean and to protect both the marine ecosystem and local employment.
