Mazara del Vallo Hospital Opens New Anesthesia and Resuscitation Unit

The public hospital “A. Ajello” in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, has inaugurated an Anesthesia and Resuscitation (Intensive Care) department after years of planning. The opening was welcomed by the regional nurses’ union NurSind Trapani, whose representative Giovanni La Grutta thanked the extraordinary commissioner of the local health authority, Sabrina Pulvirenti, for driving the project forward.

La Grutta also praised the contributions of the “Pro A. Ajello” committee members – president Nicolò Di Giovanni, Cavaliere Giovanelli and accountant Montalbano – and highlighted political support from former regional assessor and deputy Toni Scilla, together with municipal councillors Giorgio Randazzo and Michele Reina, which helped secure the necessary funding. The new unit is expected to increase patient safety, reduce transfers to other provincial hospitals, and improve the hospital’s capacity to handle complex cases. Work on installing a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner is also continuing.

The union emphasized its ongoing commitment to safeguarding the quality of care at the “A. Ajello” hospital.
