Mazatlán council adopts constitutional reforms and pushes for early electricity subsidy

The Mazatlán City Council approved a package of measures in an extraordinary session, including constitutional amendments to align the Sinaloa State Constitution with the federal charter, modify judicial functions and adjust the selection process for state judges. The council also enacted a fiscal stimulus program that offers discounts on penalties and interest for taxpayers who owe property acquisition tax (ISAI), aiming to facilitate regularisation of municipal contributions.

Separately, Sinaloa state legislators are campaigning for an early electricity subsidy, seeking to move the aid period from May to April after an unusually hot season spurred widespread use of air‑conditioners. Deputy Manuel Guerrero Verdugo announced a forthcoming meeting with the state’s political coordination board, interim governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde, representatives of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and affected citizens to address high electricity bills and explore case‑by‑case reviews.

Both initiatives reflect local authorities’ response to fiscal and utility pressures affecting residents of Mazatlán and the broader state of Sinaloa.
