Mazatlán cruise tourism generates 519 million pesos in 2026

Mazatlán has established itself as a significant national tourism hub, particularly through its growing cruise ship industry. Between January and August 19, 2026, the port recorded 87 cruise ship arrivals, bringing a total of 324,638 cruise passengers to the region.

This influx has generated an estimated economic impact exceeding 519 million pesos. A recent arrival of the Carnival Panorama, carrying over 4,500 passengers and 1,500 crew members, alone contributed an estimated 7.2 million pesos to the local economy. Data from the Secretariat of the Navy indicates that 71 percent of arriving cruise passengers disembark to visit local restaurants, shops, and cultural sites.

Federal tourism officials project continued growth for the remainder of 2026, forecasting a total of 157 arrivals and approximately 560,000 visitors. This would represent a 29 percent increase in both vessel arrivals and passenger flow compared to 2025. Major operators in the port include Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Virgin Voyages, the latter of which began operations in Mazatlán this year.
