Mazatlán fire displaces 40 people in Los Acantos settlement

A fire in the Los Acantos settlement in Mazatlán has affected 10 homes and left 40 people displaced, including 18 minors. Nine of the affected homes were reported as total losses.

According to Óscar Osuna Tirado, coordinator of Protection Civil, the rapid spread of the flames was facilitated by the flammable materials used in the construction of the dwellings. Local authorities from DIF Municipal and Bienestar Social have provided immediate aid, including food, blankets, and hygiene products, to help families through the night.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators are looking into whether the blaze started accidentally inside a home or if it was caused by neighbors burning trash in nearby yards that may have gotten out of control.
