Mazatlán launches job fair as insecurity drives business closures

The Servicio Nacional del Empleo (SNE) is organizing a National Employment Fair in Mazatlán on Friday, June 19, at the sports complex of the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa. The event, supported by municipal president Estrella Palacios Domínguez, will feature 40 companies offering more than 400 job openings with salaries up to 30,000 pesos per month.

At the same time, ongoing insecurity and a sharp drop in tourism are forcing widespread business closures in the coastal city. The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) reports that about 900 local businesses have already shut down and formal employment has fallen, as hotels, restaurants and shops rely only on weekend visitors. Coparmex president Verónica Estrada says restoring public safety is essential for economic recovery.
