Sinaloa mobilizes over 18,000 security personnel for summer tourism 2026

The State of Sinaloa launched the "Plan Operativo Verano Seguro 2026" on July 14, deploying 18,309 personnel from the army, navy, Guard, federal police, civil protection and rescue services to protect an estimated two million visitors between July 14 and September 1. Mazatlán is expected to host about 1.44 million tourists, both domestic and foreign, during the peak summer period.

The tourism campaign "La Gran Escapada 2026" (June 18‑21) generated roughly 753 million pesos in economic activity, with 101 participating establishments and a nationwide push to offer discounted travel and inclusive community experiences. In Tabasco, ADO reported a 30 % rise in bus ticket sales, added routes and summer promotions to accommodate the surge of travelers.

Mexico’s central highways also saw higher traffic as families headed to vacation spots; the Tenango‑Ixtapan corridor recorded an average of 27,707 vehicles per day in December 2025, and the La Marquesa area experienced similar weekend spikes. The state of Morelos completed a seven‑kilometre rehabilitation of the Chiverías‑Puente de Ixtla road, improving freight flow for trucks and weekend visitors.

Mazatlán’s bus terminal anticipates a 15‑20 % increase in daily runs, reaching up to 200 departures on weekends. Separate security operations in the city resulted in the detention of four civilians and seizure of firearms, ammunition and suspected cocaine.
