Mazatlán launches voluntary disarmament program
The voluntary disarmament program, Desarme Voluntario Sinaloa, has officially launched in Mazatlán to prevent accidental shootings and domestic violence. A exchange module has been established outside the City Hall, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until Friday, October 23.
Under the initiative, heads of households can anonymously surrender various types of weapons and explosives for destruction. In exchange, participants can receive up to $15,000 in cash. The program is a coordinated effort involving municipal, state, and federal authorities, including the State Public Security System, the Eighth Infantry Battalion, and the National Guard.
In the 2025 edition of the program, Mazatlán ranked as the second municipality with the highest participation, recording the destruction of 139 weapons and explosives.
