Mazatlán prison: Two inmates die after fight in workshop area

Two inmates died following a fight at the El Castillo Penitentiary Center in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on Thursday, September 24, 2026. According to the Sinaloa State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), the incident occurred in the prison's workshop area.

The altercation reportedly began as a verbal dispute between the two individuals, which escalated into a physical confrontation. Both inmates sustained injuries during the fight and subsequently passed away.

The prison administration immediately notified the Sinaloa State Attorney General's Office (FGE), which has deployed investigators to the scene to conduct field work and gather evidence. Social work personnel are tasked with notifying the families of the deceased. The identities of the inmates have not yet been released.
