Mazatlán security crisis threatens tourism and economy

Sergio “Pío” Esquer, state coordinator for Movimiento Ciudadano, has warned that rising violence in Mazatlán is severely impacting the local economy, tourism, and the safety of residents and workers. Esquer noted that the insecurity is causing businesses to close and tourists to seek alternative destinations, arguing that a state without security cannot maintain a healthy economy.

Esquer criticized political actors for focusing on electoral campaigns while the region faces a security crisis, calling for increased intelligence, coordination, and prevention rather than political discourse to recover jobs and investment in Sinaloa.
