Mazatlán strengthens status as family tourism destination

Mazatlán is reinforcing its position as a premier family destination in Mexico, according to a summer study conducted by the Asociación de Hoteles Tres Islas. The report, based on 500 surveys, indicates that 66 percent of visitors traveled with family, with average group sizes increasing compared to previous periods. Notably, the size of extended family groups rose by 43 percent, and friend groups increased by 96 percent, boosting the economic impact on local services.

The destination received a high satisfaction rating of 9.1 out of 10. While 63 percent of tourists were first-time visitors, the average stay remained steady at approximately 4.8 days. The hotel sector remains the primary accommodation choice, utilized by 73 percent of visitors.

Beyond its economic performance, Mazatlán is distinguished by its unique cultural landscape. It is the only beach destination in Mexico featuring a historic center designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The area, particularly around Playa Olas Altas, integrates colonial architecture and 19th-century buildings with coastal activities, including traditional cliff diving at the Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada roundabout and the historic Carpa Olivera natural pool.
