Mazatlán tackles road collapse and unveils nature‑based flood mitigation plan
A section of Joel Montes Camarena street leading to the Cerro del Crestón in Mazatlán collapsed, prompting the municipal road unit to close the road, remove a stranded crane and begin technical assessments for repairs. The subdirector of the road unit, Óscar García, urged residents to use alternate routes while work proceeds.
Separately, the environmental group Conselva, together with Costas y Comunidades and the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles del Sur de Sinaloa, presented the Mazatlán city council with a large‑scale nature‑based flood mitigation proposal. The plan targets the El Infiernillo estuary and aims to combine conventional infrastructure with natural solutions such as upstream flow‑slowing structures and infiltration wells to reduce flood risk. The proposal awaits municipal endorsement before a technical design can be prepared.
