Mazatlán water services face disruptions due to technical issues and flooding
Mazatlán is experiencing disruptions to its water and infrastructure services following heavy rains and biological obstructions. The Municipal Water and Sewage Board (JUMAPAM) implemented an emergency two-hour technical shutdown at the Los Horcones water treatment plant on Tuesday, October 27. The shutdown was necessary to protect pumping and filtration equipment from a massive accumulation of water hyacinth in the plant's inlet canal.
While operations have resumed, the temporary suspension of production may cause water pressure to drop by up to 60 percent in various parts of the city. Authorities have advised citizens to use stored water rationally while the distribution system normalizes.
Simultaneously, the Municipal Water and Sanitation Board (JMAS) faced mechanical failures during efforts to drain stagnant water from under the Centauro Bridge. After 12 hours of continuous suction work following weekend rains, motopumps failed, forcing a temporary pause in extraction. Traffic in the area remains severely restricted, with only high-clearance vehicles and heavy transport permitted under strict driver responsibility while cleaning and suction efforts resume.
