Mazda BT-50 faces engine changes amid SUV focus

Mazda’s BT-50 pickup truck is facing significant changes as the manufacturer shifts its focus toward the CX range of SUVs. The BT-50, which utilizes badge-engineered technology from the Isuzu D-Max, is expected to see the end of its current 3-litre 4JJ turbodiesel engine due to increasing global efficiency regulations.

In its place, a new 2.2-litre unit is anticipated. The current top-spec SP edition features a six-speed automatic transmission and various aesthetic upgrades, including 18-inch rims, a sailplane sports bar, and a manually operated roller shutter tonneau cover. While the vehicle maintains its reputation for ruggedness and reliability, the transition in engine technology marks a major shift for the model's lifecycle.
