Mazda CX-5 earns 5‑star Euro NCAP rating with high adult and child protection

The Mazda CX‑5 compact SUV received a 5‑star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The vehicle achieved 90 % adult‑occupant protection (36.1 points), 89 % child‑occupant protection (44.0 points), 93 % protection for vulnerable road users (58.6 points) and 83 % safety‑assist performance (15.0 points). Tests included frontal offset, full‑width rigid‑barrier, side‑barrier and side‑pole impacts, showing good to excellent protection for knees, thighs and other critical body areas, with marginal chest protection for the driver.

The model performed strongly for children, earning maximum scores for 6‑ and 10‑year‑old dummies, and features an automatic passenger‑airbag deactivation when a child seat is installed. Additional safety systems include eCall, multi‑collision braking and a central airbag, while the doors and windows can be opened in water‑immersion scenarios. Available in front‑ and all‑wheel‑drive versions with a 2.5‑litre mild‑hybrid gasoline engine, the CX‑5 weighs 1,675 kg and is classified as a small SUV.
