Mazda CX-5 earns top safety honors from IIHS

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 has earned the TOP SAFETY PICK+ distinction from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This achievement follows previous five-star ratings from Euro NCAP in Europe and ANCAP in Australia and New Zealand.

In IIHS evaluations, the vehicle demonstrated high performance in occupant protection during frontal and side impact tests, as well as in front collision prevention systems involving both vehicles and pedestrians. The European version previously achieved high scores from Euro NCAP, including 93% for vulnerable road user protection.

Engineering features of the new model include the i-Activ AWD system, which proactively monitors steering and throttle to manage traction, and G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+), which adjusts engine torque and braking to stabilize the vehicle during cornering. The vehicle is built on a reinforced chassis utilizing high-tensile steel to optimize structural integrity.
