Mazda launches third-generation CX-5 SUV with global and regional production plans

Mazda has launched the new third-generation CX-5 crossover SUV, featuring significant upgrades to design, interior technology, and safety systems. The new model includes an extended wheelbase of 115mm to improve cabin and cargo space, a large panoramic sunroof, and advanced digital interfaces such as 15.6-inch or 12.9-inch touchscreens. Safety enhancements include ‘Proactive Driving Assist’ and a Driver Emergency Assistance (DEA) system designed to detect driver abnormalities and safely decelerate or stop the vehicle.

In Malaysia, the third-generation CX-5 is scheduled for an official market launch on October 8. While initially arriving as a fully imported model, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) announced plans for local assembly (CKD) to begin within 12 to 16 months. The locally assembled version aims for 60% local content, a move intended to strengthen Malaysia as a regional manufacturing hub and integrate local automotive suppliers into Mazda’s global supply chain. The Malaysian model is expected to feature a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G engine with a 24-volt mild-hybrid system.
