Mazda plans new CX-30 generation for launch by 2030

Mazda is developing a new generation of its CX-30 compact SUV, which is expected to debut by the 2030 Japanese fiscal year. According to reports citing Chugoku Shimbun, the current model may remain in production for over a decade, potentially lasting until 2029 or 2030.

Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro indicated that the development of the successor will involve aggressive cost-cutting measures, using the upcoming CX-5 as a design and engineering benchmark. The new CX-30 is expected to utilize an updated version of the current platform and may feature a larger body to improve rear passenger space.

Technologically, the next-generation CX-30 is likely to incorporate Mazda’s internally developed hybrid system, which pairs a new 2.5-liter SkyActiv-Z gasoline engine with electric motors and batteries. This powertrain is slated to debut first on the CX-5 around 2027.
