Mazda releases limited-edition Spirit Racing Roadsters
Mazda has released two limited-production versions of its Roadster based on racing expertise from the Super Taikyu series: the 2,200-unit Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster and the ultra-exclusive 200-unit Roadster 12R.
The Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster features a specially tuned 2.0L engine producing 184ps and 20.9kg-m of torque. It incorporates racing-derived controls, including optimized throttle response and assist for heel-and-toe downshifts. Performance hardware includes Bilstein dampers, Rays aluminum wheels, and Brembo brakes.
The Roadster 12R is a more extreme variant, producing 200ps through enhanced engine assembly, such as intake port polishing and modified cam shapes. It also utilizes low-friction DLC-coated piston rings and a single-mass flywheel. Weighing 1,050kg, it offers an improved power-to-weight ratio of 5.2kg/ps. While highly capable on the circuit, reviewers note its stiff suspension and specialized tuning make it less suitable for everyday road use compared to the standard Spirit Racing model.
