MAZU AI weather solution expands global early warning capabilities

The MAZU AI-powered meteorological solution, developed by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), is expanding its global footprint to support early warning efforts for climate-related disasters. Named after the traditional Chinese sea goddess, the system integrates AI models, Fengyun satellite data, and cloud computing to provide weather forecasting services.

Currently, the platform is undergoing cloud trials in over 40 countries and has been implemented in nations including Pakistan, Ethiopia, the Solomon Islands, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, and Djibouti. In Pakistan, the system has been integrated into the national meteorological department's platform to manage monsoon-related flash floods, while in Ethiopia, experts are using satellite data to generate high-precision local forecasts.

To support these efforts, the Bank of China (BOC) and merchants from Putian have donated funds to establish the ‘MAZU Scholarship.’ This initiative aims to support meteorological research and training, particularly for professionals from ‘Belt and Road’ partner countries and other developing nations. To date, nearly 1,000 professionals from approximately 100 developing countries have received technical training through related programs.
