Mazurska Służba Ratownicza clarifies free rescue services on Lake Seksty

The Mazurska Służba Ratownicza (MSR) has issued a statement clarifying its involvement in a major rescue operation on Lake Seksty. On August 6, 2026, severe storms in the Warmia-Masuria region caused four sailboats to capsize, resulting in 37 people falling into the water, including 31 children. While no injuries were reported, the scale of the incident required significant intervention.

Addressing recent disputes regarding costs, the MSR stated that they did not charge any fees for the rescue mission. The organization emphasized that they did not issue invoices or seek reimbursement for the equipment and personnel used during the multi-day operation. The MSR noted that as an association, their rescuers perform duties voluntarily during their free time and do not request payment when responding to life-saving calls.

Additionally, the MSR provided technical assistance to remove sunken vessels from the navigation route to prevent further hazards to other water users, also performing this service free of charge.
