MBAL Shumen to open new birthing room with pool
A new individual birthing room equipped with a pool is set to open at the Maternity Ward of MBAL Shumen on August 14 at 13:00. The opening date was chosen to coincide with the Christian feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, traditionally regarded as the patroness of pregnant women and mothers.
The facility is designed to aid relaxation during the first stage of labor. Medical specialists noted that immersion in warm water helps relax muscles, reduces the intensity of contractions, softens tissues, and lowers the risk of tearing, while providing a more comfortable transition for the newborn.
The pool and the room's furnishings were provided by an anonymous donor. While the hospital management assisted with the room's setup, the procedure will be a paid service for expectant mothers, with the specific cost to be determined and added to the maternity department's price list.
