Mbayang Diop faces potential execution in Saudi Arabia
Mbayang Diop, a Senegalese national detained in Saudi Arabia since 2016, may face execution within approximately three months, according to diplomatic sources. Diop was sentenced to death in April 2017 following allegations involving the murder of her employer.
Boubacar Sèye, president of the organization Horizon Sans Frontières (HSF), has called upon Senegalese authorities to urgently verify Diop's current legal status and seek clarity for her family. HSF is advocating for national and international mobilization to request a pardon or a commutation of her sentence.
The case has drawn renewed attention as the possibility of a pardon or compensation—often referred to as 'blood money'—remains a point of interest, particularly regarding the potential for the victim's children to reach adulthood and influence the legal outcome.
