MBC ‘I Live Alone’ faces controversy over Kazakhstan trip details

Controversy is mounting regarding the MBC variety show ‘I Live Alone’ following allegations of scripted elements during Jun Hyun-moo’s recent trip to Kazakhstan. While the production team previously apologized for pre-arranging staff flights for the supposedly spontaneous journey, new questions have emerged concerning a rental car reservation shown on screen.

A viewer filed a supplementary opinion with the Korea Communications Standards Commission, pointing out discrepancies between the broadcasted itinerary and the rental car details. Although the show described the trip as a ‘29-hour’ spontaneous excursion, the rental car reservation screen displayed a 48-hour rental period starting at 9:08 AM. Critics noted that this start time precedes the flight's departure from Incheon and the estimated arrival time in Almaty, suggesting the scene may have been staged to emphasize the spontaneity of the trip.

The production team responded by stating that Jun Hyun-moo booked the vehicle himself at Incheon Airport and collected it upon arrival in Kazakhstan. They apologized for failing to sufficiently verify local procedures for driving in the region before filming.
