MBDA unveils mobile short‑range air‑defence missile SL‑ASRAAM at Farnborough Airshow
At the Farnborough International Airshow, European missile maker MBDA introduced SL‑ASRAAM, a surface‑launched version of the proven ASRAAM air‑to‑air missile designed for short‑range air‑defence (SHORAD). The system can be mounted on fixed sites, tracked vehicles, trucks or unmanned ground platforms, providing a mobile, agile defence against aircraft, helicopters and low‑altitude unmanned aerial systems. MBDA highlighted its ability to integrate with battlefield networks, receiving data from radars and sensors to extend protected airspace and reduce reaction times. The company says the missile leverages existing production lines, allowing rapid fielding and offering a cost‑effective solution for protecting logistics hubs, artillery batteries and command centres.
