Senegal: Two men arrested for alleged sexual abuse of minors

Authorities in Senegal have arrested two men in separate incidents involving allegations of sexual abuse against minors.

In Grand-Yoff, Djibril Gaye, a 35-year-old Quranic teacher, was detained following allegations of pedophilia, rape, and the abduction of a 9-year-old student. The victim’s family reported the incident after noticing the child had difficulty walking. Medical examinations at Idrissa Pouye Hospital reportedly confirmed physical findings consistent with the girl's testimony. Witnesses also placed the child in a room with the suspect during the alleged assault. Gaye has admitted to being in the room with the victim but denies the sexual allegations.

In a separate case in Tivaouane-Peulh, P. Mbaye, a 35-year-old man with a physical disability, was arrested by the gendarmerie for alleged pedophilia and indecency against a 7-year-old girl. The suspect was reportedly intercepted by neighbors while allegedly touching the child. Mbaye has admitted to lying down with the girl but denies any sexual penetration, claiming he was merely “playing” with her. Medical experts noted that the child's hymen remained intact during the examination.
