MC Guimê leaves funk music to pursue gospel career
Brazilian singer MC Guimê has announced he is leaving the funk genre after a 17-year career to dedicate himself exclusively to gospel music. The 33-year-old artist shared the decision via an open letter on social media, stating that he feels he has completed his mission within the funk movement.
Guimê, a prominent figure in the ‘funk ostentação’ subgenre known for hits such as ‘Plaquê de 100’ and ‘Tá Patrão’, described his transition as a move toward a higher purpose. He noted that his experiences, including both successes and challenges, served as preparation for this new spiritual chapter. Prior to the formal announcement, the singer had already released religious song versions, signaling his intent to focus his career on faith-based music.
