Artificial Intelligence shifts toward corporate board governance and regional adoption

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is reshaping corporate governance and regional economic strategies. Corporate boards are increasingly assuming direct oversight of AI to manage legal liabilities and financial risks associated with automated decisions. Research indicates that over 60% of large global companies have already implemented formal AI governance mechanisms at the board level.

However, a significant gap exists between corporate ambition and operational readiness. A CGI study of 1,800 executives reveals that while AI adoption is accelerating, many organizations lack the agility and digital reengineering required to scale these technologies effectively. Similarly, in Brazil, gender disparity remains a critical issue, with women holding only 4.7% of executive AI positions, significantly below the global average of 13.3%.

Regional initiatives are also emerging to bridge technology gaps. In Madeira, the ARIA-Empresas strategy aims to increase AI adoption among small and medium enterprises to 25% by 2030. In the educational sector, there are calls to integrate humanoid robots and robotics kits into Brazilian public schools to combat high dropout rates and improve engagement in STEM subjects, following models seen in China.
